SecurityEXPERT Licensing

"You are currently in Demo mode, the feature is only available in the Full version"
This message means your serial-number is not enabled for SecurityEXPERT.  More (SE0087)

SecurityEXPERT Template Downloads

Cannot successfully download any SecurityEXPERT Templates
This symptom may indicate a web proxy, firewall, or IIS Anonymous Account issue. More (SE0091)

"Failed Downloading Template"
This message may indicate a web proxy, firewall, or IIS Anonymous Account issue. More (SE0091)

SecurityEXPERT Installation

"Culture 'xx' is a neutral culture"
This message may indicates an IE Language configuration problem. More (SE0093)  

"SecurityEXPERT Web pages don't display correctly on Windows 2003/SP1"
This symptom may indicate the need to lighten IE security settings. More (SE0090)

"Access Denied"
This message may mean that IIS is not controlling the Anonymous Account password, as it usually does.. More (SE0076)

"... Incorrect Syntax near COLLATE ..."
A message containing COLLATE most likely indicates you are trying to use SQL 7.0 as your database, which is not supported. More (SE0024)

"Error Occurred in DAC function..."
This message typically occurs in a SecurityEXPERT window after you've installed SecurityEXPERT, then try to access the SecurityEXPERT database, but your specified database account is not valid. More (SE0048)

"The Request Failed with HTTP Status 503: Service Unavailable"
Some third party Internet filters, including iPrism, may block access to SecurityEXPERT's web services. This is most likely the case if, when attempting to download a template, you get this error message. More (SE0029)

"Server Error in '/SecurityEXPERT' Application - Configuration Error - Parser Error Message: Required permissions cannot be acquired"
This is a SharePoint/SecurityEXPERT integration issue. More (SE0084)

Server Error in '/SecurityEXPERT' Application - Runtime Error - Description: An Application Error Occurred on the Server
This is a SharePoint/SecurityEXPERT integration issue. More (SE0086)

Why do SecurityEXPERT screens sometimes display slowly?
SecurityEXPERT is a .NET application, requiring periodic JIT compilation, screens are slower when JIT compilation occurs on the web application server. More (SE0056)

Settings Deployment

"Could not Change the Status to Started"
Typically seen in the Enforcement Report, and indicates that the service on the target machine is "disabled". The solution is to also enforce the Startup Type at the same time, setting it to either Manual or Automatic. More (SE0060)

"Failed"
Typically seen in Enforcement Report. See
Event Log > Applications on SecurityEXPERT Server, see SEEXEC.exe.log on target machine, in C:\WINNT\UE_Installs directory. Contact Tech-Support for further assistance. More (SE0059)

Reporting

"Input String was not in a correct format"
If you get this message when opening a Scan report (instead of the report itself), it indicates that scan data is missing or corrupted for that particular scan. Typically, it's one security point in the template or policy causing the problem, and occurs due to expected data, like a registry value, not being present in the registry of the system that was scanned. It is recommended you contact Tech-Support for troubleshooting advice. More (SE0057)

UpdateEXPERT Database

Note: the UpdateEXPERT database is used to notify the user of available Security Templates via the Security Templates Tab and the Query command. For example, the availability of security templates for other platforms and applications, such as Windows 2000 and IE, will occur as future UpdateEXPERT database updates.

"Live Update has no change to apply"
This means your UpdateEXPERT patch database is up-to-date, and also implies you have the latest SecurityEXPERT security templates.

SecurityEXPERT Database

Note: the SecurityEXPERT datastore are the SEDataStore.mdf and SEDataStore.ldf files in the "data" folder of MSDE (MSSQL$SBSDB) or possibly an SEDataStore database in a local instance of SQL Server, and is used store the template security point data. Storing security point data occurs when the user does a "Download" operation from UpdateEXPERT. This database also stores scan results and any other data produced by the user while using SecurityEXPERT, such as stored security profiles.
