UpdateEXPERT/SecurityEXPERT Server

UpdateEXPERT is easily installed on 32-bit Windows operating systems (Win2k Pro etc, Win XP Pro, Win2k3 Server) with administrator rights. Major components include the Master-Agent which does the "heavy lifting", ie., network communications over LAN/WAN connections, and patch downloading and deployment to target machines, and the Console, which provides an integrated user-interface showing your network tree, patch details, and patch related articles from Microsoft, RedHat, or Sun. An Agent-Installer is provided for pushing additional Master-Agents out to strategically placed machines that will aid in deploying patches (for remote-office networks for example). The Agent-Installer is also used for pushing Leaf-Agents out to Windows clients, which could be:

UpdateEXPERT also can be installed in an isolated network, and kept up-to-date with a utility called PUP.

See "Can you give me an introduction to UpdateEXPERT usage?" for a narrative on components, initial database update and network discovery, initial patch deployment etc., with links to details.

Note on Licensing: St. Bernard Software provides flexible network topology support. You may use as many/few Master-Agents as you wish (within your machine count limit). You may use as many/few Consoles as you wish to support central or delegated patch management. You may intermix the use of Windows Agentless/Leaf-Agent support, as suits your organizational and security needs.

Note on SecurityEXPERT: The addition of SecurityEXPERT (for "settings management", ie., hardening) requires the installation of IIS, and upgrading to IE 6.x on the UpdateEXPERT Master-Agent machine. Other needed SecurityEXPERT components are upgraded or installed via the SecurityEXPERT installation itself. If adding SecurityEXPERT to an existing UpdateEXPERT installation, a SecurityEXPERT-enabled license needs to be installed.
