WINS Cache

Overview

WINS (Window Internet Naming Service) is a Microsoft service that caches known hostnames on the network. When you open up "My Network Places" you are typically viewing hosts known via WINS. UpdateEXPERT Enumeration relies on WINS and/or DNS to discover hosts.

Missing Hosts?

If WINS is not enabled for a particular group of machines, or is not sharing host data with other WINS servers, you may see an empty domain or workgroup in your enumerated list, ie., when you expand the group, no hostnames show up. You can still manage the machines however; the remedy is to:
