UpdateEXPERT.exe

Also known as the "UpdateEXPERT Console" or "Console", this is the user interface (GUI). This program directs administrator commands to one or more Master-Agents.

UEAgent.exe

This process plays the role of Master-Agent or Leaf-Agent, depending on how the Agent was installed.  UEAgent carries out commands received from the Console, delegating work to UELog, UEFile, and UEActor where needed, and messaging with other UEAgents (in the Leaf role).

Tip: UEAgent, UELog, UEFile and UEActor all start and stop together when using "net start ueagent" or "net stop ueagent"

Writes log file data to:

UEFile.exe

Performs file transfers, as during patch deployment.

Carries out many commands from UEAgent, interacts with patch remediation database.

UEAgentInstaller.exe

This is the "Agent Installation Wizard" in the GUI.  This program supports  local or remote agent installation, and can be used in scripts for mass deployments of Leaf-Agents.

UEInstallService.exe

Executes Microsoft patches on all Windows targets, forwards update status to UpdateEXPERT Console for display in the deployment status window.

When UEInstallService.exe runs a patch on a target,  you will see "update.exe" or "ieupdate.exe" consuming CPU time ... this means the patches are being applied. Note that update.exe or ieupdate.exe are Microsoft programs, not part of UpdateEXPERT.

You may see this program in C:\%WinDiR%\ue_installs on the target machine, possibly with some patches that are installing if you view the target machine directory during patch installation.

UpdateUE.exe

This requests remediation database updates from St. Bernard Software, downloads them, and applies them to UpdateEXPERT automatically. Frequency is controlled by user-specified "Update Database" scheduling.

AgentUTIL.exe

Supports backup or migration of Master-Agent data (Agent Settings and Leaf Agent data). You exit the console and run AgentUtil locally on the existing system to "backup" data to a file, take the file over to the new machine, install the Master Agent, and run AgentUtil.exe locally again to "restore" the data. Prior "Agent Settings" and Leaf Agent data is restored. This program is found in C:\%WinDir%\UEAgent.

Note: This program does NOT accept command line arguments. It is a GUI only.

PUP.exe

This allows UpdateEXPERT and its remediation database to be updated in an isolated (non-internet connected) network.

Note: PUP updates UpdateEXPERT only. Customers must download and move needed patches into the isolated network.
