How do I configure UpdateEXPERT to download files via Proxy Server?

To download patches and database updates, UpdateEXPERT needs to know how to connect to the internet proxy server. Examples of proxy servers include:

Much like "Internet Explorer" (IE), there is a tab in which you can specify Web Proxy information.

Tip: The browser frames in UpdateEXPERT use IE settings, which is why you might see the "UpdateEXPERT User Web" home page, yet be unable to download the latest database. This occurs because UpdateEXPERT uses an IE plugin for the browser frame parts of the GUI. However, the IE plugin settings do not configure proxy information within the UpdateEXPERT application itself.

Setting the Global Agent Defaults

Go to "File > Agent > Settings >Internet Tab", and fill in the name or IP of the HTTP/FTP proxy server and the associated port numbers, which may or may not be the same. Also, internal authentication credentials may be required by the proxy, and should be entered in the format (domain\user) as shown below, along with a valid password. UpdateEXPERT will now be able to update the remediation database and download patches and service-packs.  Note that FTP Proxy specification is typically not necessary anymore due to browser improvements, but is shown for completeness.

If you want the proxy information to apply to all agents (except those specifically configured otherwise), select "GlobalAgents" (see below) and enter your settings.

Setting Specific Master or Leaf Agent Defaults

You may also select a specific Master-Agent or Leaf-Agent (as shown below), and uncheck "Use Global Agent Settings" to enable the fields.

When the fields are enabled, you can typically enter just the HTTP information, ignoring the FTP fields, or you can fill in FTP for completeness.

Tips: Use the "Test Proxies" button to test your connection... or try to "update your database" to test your connection. Also, if configuring a Leaf or Master that will download over a slow link, you may want to increase the Timeout value from 60 seconds to 120 or 180 seconds.
