It is very easy to initially update your database to the latest information, then keep it up to date. After the initial update (typically after installation and described below) an automated check for new database information will occur every 6 hours by default. You can tailor this schedule using File > Agent > Settings > Updates.
Use "Help > About" to see the current database version number and product build number. You can check this against St. Bernard Software's Patch Information Database which will show you the latest database and build numbers, in addition to recently released patches contained in the UpdateEXPERT database.
Use "Help > Update Database Now" to see if you are "current". Wait at least 60 seconds to connect (some processing needs to occur). You are completely up-to-date If you get the message:
"Live Update has no change to apply" (as shown below)
If instead, you get a dialogue box giving you a 30 second countdown, there is a database update available. Go ahead and allow the database to be updated, which is usually done in a couple minutes. Then do "Help > About" again to see the new database version number.
If you connect to multiple Master-Agents with UpdateEXPERT Premium, a check is performed to make sure all databases at all connected Master-Agents are in sync (same revision). If not, you'll get a dialogue box.
If you connect to multiple Master-Agents with UpdateEXPERT 6.x, see the database update tips below.
When you download a new database in UpdateEXPERT 6.x, the console reports the current database version in "Help-About".
If you then connect to another Master-Agent (which has not been updated) with the same console, it will still report the current database version obtained from updating the initial Master-Agent.
This can make you think you have the current database version, and yet you cannot find new updates because you really have the older database for current Master-Agent connection. Remember, each Master-Agent has its own remediation database. To guarantee accurate "HELP | About" database/build numbers, and to guarantee that the latest patches are listed when querying, when you connect to another Master-Agent, perform the "HELP | Update Database Now" operation, this way, you know the database is up-to-date.
Also, if multiple consoles are accessing one Master Agent at various times (perhaps patching has been delegated to multiple admins) each console user should do "Update Database Now" when they want to guarantee that the build number they see is accurate.
