The message below, and related shell or event log messages, for a specific Master-Agent you are attempting to start, may indicate that one or more of the registry keys for one or more of its Leaf-Agents are missing. This might include the ID, Info, Key, Name or Type keys (illustrated below with screen shots).
From the Shell, you may see the following:
c:\> net start ueagent
The UEAgent service is starting. (this is normal)
The UEAgent service could not be started. (this is not
normal)
The service did not report an error. (this is not
normal)
More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 3534. (this is not
normal)
In the Application Event Log, you may see the following:
The message above means that the Master-Agent is reading the configuration data of each Leaf-Agent for the purpose of establishing communication with the Leaf-Agent at some point, but the read is failing for a Leaf-Agent at some point. The failed read prevents the Master-Agent from starting.
Leaf-Agent data is under the following registry location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\St. Bernard Software\UpdateEXPERT\6.0\UEAgent\Settings\AgentMap\Agents
This screen shot shows a Leaf-Agent with a normal set (5 items) of keys with their data values ...
The screen shot below shows an abnormal set (4 items) of keys with their data values ... The Info key/value pair is missing and will cause the problem described above.
